Exar Integrates LIU and More
FREMONT, Calif. -- Exar Corporation, a leading provider of high-performance, mixed-signal silicon solutions for the worldwide communications infrastructure announced a next generation silicon solution incorporating a Line Interface Unit (LIU), Jitter Attenuator (JA) and ATM UNI framer in one innovative combination device. The XRT79L71, the first in a family of solutions, is a single-channel device targeted at telecommunications equipment including digital access and cross connect systems, wireless base stations, and Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexers (DSLAMs) among others. Additional multi-channel parts will be announced later during the year. "The XRT79L71 is truly a breakthrough product for Exar, and demonstrates how we are leveraging our world-class engineering resources to give customers new design options and functionality," said Dr. Roubik Gregorian, chief operating officer. "It builds on Exar's industry-proven functional device elements offered in initial products (LIUs, framers etc.), capitalizes on their subsequent multi-channel versions, and now combines these already established capabilities into a highly integrated device." The device is a single-channel, Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), Universal Network Interface (UNI) physical-layer processor incorporating a T3/E3 framer, LIU and JA. The device supports ATM direct mapping and cell delineation as well as PPP mapping and frame processing. For clear-channel framer applications it provides both transmission and reception of user data from the DS3/E3 payload. The device has a flexible microprocessor interface for easy configuration and control, and meets industry-standard UTOPIA II and POS-PHY specifications operating at 25MHz, 33MHz, or 55Mhz. Exar Corp.
