Telkom SA Spurns Oger

Ray Le Maistre
3/31/2008

12:25 PM -- Telkom SA Ltd. (NYSE/Johannesburg: TKG) has rejected the advances of ambitious emerging markets player Oger Telecom , which registered its interest in the South African incumbent in January this year. (See Oger Enters Telkom SA Fray.)

Telkom noted today that "the disposal of Telkom or any of its subsidiaries, joint ventures or any parts thereof will not be considered by Telkom without a compelling strategic rationale," and that "the previously announced expression of interest by Oger Telecoms was evaluated by the Board and has been declined as it is not in the interests of Telkom shareholders."

That's another M&A idea squashed, then. (See Telkom Slumps as Talks Dissolve.)
