'Idea Shower,' Anyone?

6:00 AM -- Brace yourselves for the latest fight against "management speak," because if you're planning a "brainstorming" session today, you ought to reconsider.

Why? Because using that particular term may offend people who suffer from fits.

Who says? A large company listed on the London Stock Exchange , apparently, which wants its staff to have "idea showers" instead of "brainstorming" sessions.

This latest infringement of verbal rights was exposed after management columnist Lucy Kellaway embarked on a mission to stamp out use of the phrase "going forward."

The response from the public was overwhelming, so the British Broadcasting Corp. (BBC) compiled a list of the best/worst "office speak" based on reader responses. Check out the resulting article and see how many you recognize -- the first suggestion is from someone who used to work for Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ)!

re: 'Idea Shower,' Anyone? I miss the days (late 1980s) when sales managers would confuse their staff by telling them they needed to make 2 + 2 = 5, as well as push the envelope after grabbing the low-hanging fruit etc etc
