Europe's WiMax Creep

4:00 PM -- A couple of WiMax announcements caught EuroBlog's bloodshot eye this week.

First up, in France, Altitude Telecom , the wireless operator owned by triple-play pioneer Iliad (Euronext: ILD), is forging ahead with its broadband wireless plans, with some help from Alvarion Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: ALVR). (See Altitude Picks Alvarion and Euro Altnets Step Up M&A.)

Further east, in Moscow actually, Russian broadband player Comstar United Telesystems JSC (London: CMST) has inked an agreement with chip giant Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC) to develop a mobile WiMax network. (See Comstar Plans Russian WiMax.)
