China Begins Carrier Revamp

11:20 AM -- The anticipated major restructuring of China's telecom service provider sector has begun, causing the financial authorities to suspend the trading of shares in some of the country's major operators.

Details of the Chinese government's plans to restructure the country's carriers emerged in January this year. Basically, the existing operators are being reorganized to create three giant companies that will each have fixed and mobile assets. (See Major Carrier Shakeup Expected in China.)

Now reports from the country's official news agency, Xinhua, suggest the process is underway. Check out this report from Bloomberg that pulls together the details.
