Euronews: Telefónica, Megafon Team Up

Telefónica SA, MegaFon, Fortumo, Telenor ASA, Etisalat, Nokia Corp. and High Tech Computer Corp. (HTC) are among this week's early news-makers.
  • Telefónica and Russian operator Megafon have struck a global strategic partnership deal that will see the two operators engage in joint R&D and use each others' networks to deliver services to their customers. For more details, see this press release.

  • Neelie Kroes, the European Union Commissioner for Digital Agenda, is aiming to have proposals for the creation of a single European telecom services market ready for consideration by the European Parliament within a year, she said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. The proposals would not include a single telecom regulator, however.
  • Etisalat has made the highest bid for Vivendi's stake in Maroc Telecom, which the French media and communications giant is trying to sell, reports Reuters.
