SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Worldwide VPN and firewall hardware and software revenue hit $735 million in 4Q02, totaling $2.7 billion in CY02, and is projected to reach $5 billion in CY06, according to Infonetics Research's quarterly worldwide market share and forecast service, VPN and Firewall Products. "Appliances and routers will carry growth in the VPN/firewall market through CY03 because of large site-to-site and broadband VPN deployments and related new firewall requirements," said Jeff Wilson, executive director of Infonetics Research. "The software market is becoming more and more dependent on software shipments bundled with appliances, for cost, ease of deployment, ease of management, and performance reasons." 4Q02 Highlights
