Who Makes What: VOIP Infrastructure Equipment

Welcome to another Light Reading project aimed at helping everybody get a better understanding of a rapidly evolving marketplace – in this case, VOIP infrastructure equipment, understood here to be the main items of plumbing for telco next-generation voice and multimedia networks.

As with previous Who Makes What reports, this article proposes a taxonomy, lists vendors, and invites readers to suggest improvements, point out omissions, and generally lend a hand in building a comprehensive view of what is going on in terms of products and vendors.

CALL TO ACTION: A questionnaire to enable vendors to categorize their products using the taxonomy of this Who Makes What can be downloaded by clicking on this link.

DEADLINE: Please submit your entry BEFORE AUGUST 31 to make sure your company’s products are included in the launch version of the directory.

Here’s a hyperlinked summary of the remainder of this report:

To comment, simply post your suggestions on the message board linked to this article. This is the preferred input method, but you can also contribute by email, addressed to [email protected]. Please include "VOIP Infrastructure" in the subject field to help us identify your comments.

We will update the report in response to reader input, so if your company has been left off any of the lists by mistake, or you have any suggestions for improvement of the taxonomy, please get in touch. The initial version of the report represents our best effort at producing a directory, but we need your feedback to make it comprehensive.

This report dovetails with a previous Who Makes What report covering VOIP applications software (see Who Makes What: VOIP Applications Software). This earlier report forms the basis of Light Reading's IP Services Software Directory.

re: Who Makes What: VOIP Infrastructure Equipment They either are changing product line or moving jobs to India. Heard over 16 people in engineering were let go over a month ago. Didn't they acquire NextHop a while back? Are there any cuts there? Do they have any sales yet?

re: Who Makes What: VOIP Infrastructure Equipment As with all "Who Makes What" reports, we do our best to list all suppliers but we're bound to have missed some, particularly in this market, which is still in its infancy in some respects.

So, if your company isn't listed in this report, don't get upset. Do 2 things:

1. Post a message on this board pointing to the omission. Or if you're shy, email [email protected]

2. Download the questionnaire embedded in this report and follow the instructions for completing it and sending it back. This will help us position your company's products in the right categories.

re: Who Makes What: VOIP Infrastructure Equipment
I heard from a friend that they are hiring but the company has almost no visibility - just couple of articles here and there. I see their name in the VOIP quipment vendor list. Appreciate any input.

Thx.

re: Who Makes What: VOIP Infrastructure Equipment "Syndeo and Convergent are dead."

For the record, a Convergent Networks spokesperson tells me the company was taken over by a private company in March 2005, but is still active.
