Thomson Wins GlobalNet Deal
GlobalNet has acquired Thomson’s Cirpack Class 4 and 5 SoftSwitches in order to provide a full range of voice features for both the residential and business markets. The project, to be implemented by Honduran integrators Consulte, will be launched in October of this year with the aim of 25,000 VoIP subscribers by the end of 2006.
The telecommunications market in Honduras was opened to competition in 2005 in order to address the country’s penury of telephone access lines. Sergio Salgado, GlobalNet’s CEO commented “Honduras is a country of 7.4 million inhabitants yet there are still only half a million wire lines in service and the waiting list is long. We can see there is great market potential, with the launch of our packaged Voice and Data over DSL offer, to meet the country’s demand for both internet and voice services. We are confident that Thomson’s Network Intelligence Solutions will grow with us to meet this demand.”
Ramon Cwu, CEO of Consulte commented, “This is the fourth project we are implementing using Thomson’s Cirpack VoIP technologies so far this year and we have been really satisfied with the feedback from our customers”.
Jean-Pierre Dumolard, General Manager Thomson’s Network Intelligence Solutions summarised “Our Cirpack VoIP platforms are strengthening their presence in Central America. Our flexible systems are attractive to these markets as they are compatible with all types of networks whether they be legacy, broadband or even GSM. What is more, they can easily grow with providers - both in terms of capacity and range of voice and video services offered.”
