GAITHERSBURG, Md. -- BroadSoft, Inc., a leading provider of VoIP application software, today announced the appointment of James A. Tholen as chief financial officer. Tholen brings to BroadSoft more than 20 years of financial management experience and has played key roles in major strategic moves for several notable companies, including CareerBuilder, Inc. He will direct BroadSoft's financial operations, including accounting and administrative functions.

Tholen previously served as both chief financial officer (CFO) and chief operating officer (COO) at NetSec, Inc., a managed and professional security services company acquired by MCI (now Verizon Business). Prior to NetSec, he served as chief strategy officer and CFO for CareerBuilder and was a founding member of that company's board of directors. Tholen was an integral player in growing CareerBuilder into the No. 2 company in the Internet job board recruiting market, and managed its initial public offering and later sale to leading newspaper companies.

Prior to CareerBuilder, Tholen was COO and CFO for FTP Software, and CFO at The Compucare Co. He also served as vice president of corporate development at Legent Corp., and was a technology investment banker at Morgan Stanley & Co.

"I'm pleased to welcome such a tried-and-true financial executive to BroadSoft. Jim's proven track record of boosting company performance and his vision as a business strategist make him an important addition to our management team," said Michael Tessler, president and CEO of BroadSoft. "Jim will oversee our financial operations and manage our growth as we continue to expand our customer base globally."

"I am excited about this opportunity. BroadSoft's vision, commitment to innovation, worldwide market leading offerings, and dedication to helping its customers succeed is espoused by every employee," said Tholen. "I look forward to playing a role in the company's continued growth."

Tholen will assume the main financial responsibilities at BroadSoft, taking over for Phil Salopek, who has been appointed vice president responsible for corporate development, including M&A, strategic planning and special projects. "As BroadSoft continues its explosive growth and with the significant opportunities in front of us, I am excited about my new role and the opportunity to contribute to the next phase of our success," said Salopek.
