GUILDFORD, U.K. -- Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV), a leading global provider of business communications applications, systems and services announced that Gamma Telecom Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Trunking services have been rated compliant with Avaya’s IP Office, an industry-leading intelligent communications solution for small and medium businesses. As a result, smaller firms are able to reduce their costs, operate more flexibly and get more benefits from their communications investment.

“We have a very good relationship with Avaya and have worked closely to ensure our solutions are interoperable,” said Richard Bligh, marketing director of Gamma Telecom. “By combining Gamma’s services with Avaya’s products, we are now able to offer our channel partners an even greater mix of feature-rich, cost-effective IP telephony solutions. Our aim is always to put our channel partners ahead of the market, and this partnership with Avaya has allowed us to continue to build on that strategy.”

SIP is an industry-standard signaling protocol used to establish communication sessions over a data network – from a simple two-way telephone call to a collaborative, multimedia conference. SIP trunking services from Gamma Telecom, one of the UK’s largest providers of voice services and applications now have been tested for interoperability with Avaya IP Office, a secure, easy-to-use voice and data server that supports up to 350 users. To date more than 100,000 Avaya IP Office systems have been sold to small and midsized businesses worldwide.

Gamma Telecom is one of the first carriers to complete a countrywide network using an IP-based soft-switch. Gamma Telecom runs a range of voice solutions over its private network that is targeted for resale in the small to medium-sized business market.

“This is a true win, win story” said Graham Bunting, director small business, Avaya, UK and Ireland. “Resellers can offer their customers a complete SIP Trunking solution which provides small businesses with low cost calls and increased flexibility in a phone system - as well as up to a 60% saving over ISDN. On the other hand, resellers can enjoy increased margin revenues from both the voice application and the re-sell of SIP Trunks lines” concluded Bunting.
