BURLINGTON, Mass. -- Acme Packet® (NASDAQ: APKT), the leader in session border control solutions, today announced that NextGen, a network engineering company in Japan, has signed a distribution agreement to resell Acme Packet’s session border controllers (SBCs) as part of a packaged solution. The solution will be targeted at Tier-1 and Tier-2 service providers to provide critical security and control for a wide variety of IP interactive communications services.

Under the terms of the agreement, NextGen will package its SIP signaling controller with Acme Packet’s Net-Net Border Gateway (BG), a decomposed SBC element that controls media flows. NextGen’s SIP signaling element controls the Net-Net BG using a H.248 interface. NextGen will resell this solution to control both access and interconnect borders in the networks of wireline and wireless service providers. NextGen chose Acme Packet’s SBCs for their functionality, reliability, capacity and processing performance. The Net-Net BG will enable NextGen to offer its customers a higher number of simultaneous connections over a previous proprietary software-based media controller.

“The architectural flexibility of Acme Packet’s products helps us to simplify our own solution line while delivering precisely what our customers need,” explained Shinji Onishi, president of NextGen. “By integrating Acme Packet’s best-of-breed session border control solutions, we are able to offer our customers a trusted, first-class solution that supports a variety of revenue-generating services.”
