A Void at Vonage
I always liked talking to Brooke simply because she didn't seem like just another mouthpiece regurgitating the old company line as an answer to every question. Sure, that's exactly what she was doing, but at least with Brooke you got the sense that she actually gave a crap.
Sometimes when dealing with PR -- especially those at PR firms that don't even work for the actual company -- you get the sense that the person is just going through the motions of his job and really couldn't care less about what's going on at the company.
Brooke always seemed to care. As the events of the Vonage Holdings Corp. (NYSE: VG) and Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) patent dispute case unfolded, I always got the sense that she took the lawsuit personally and was flat out pissed off at Verizon. While she was typically only repeating the company's public stance on the case, it was nice to get the feeling that she was passionate about what was going on and not just doing her job.
Brooke is taking this year to pursue an MBA program at Stanford, which last time I checked has an OK business school. Best of luck to her. I hope there's still a Vonage waiting for her in a year's time.
