FORT LEE, N.J. -- VocalTec Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: VOCL) today announced that iLocus, a leading industry research group, has named VocalTec the leading provider of VoIP equipment in India in a recent study of the VoIP market. VocalTec leads in actual minutes of international long distance (ILD) traffic over VoIP gateways in India, with an 83 percent market share, according to iLocus. "India's telecom market is one of the most dynamic telecom markets in the world, presenting high revenue potential for equipment vendors," said Jahangir Raina, Analyst at iLocus. "As carriers in India build next-generation networks that compete globally, we expect very rapid adoption of VoIP services not only in ILD but also in the domestic long distance segment. VocalTec is poised to meet the explosive growth expectations forecasted in our study." The iLocus' report, released last week, provides a comprehensive examination of VoIP market in India since legalization of VoIP and deregulation of ILD a year ago. The study reveals that 220 million minutes of ILD (including both incoming and outgoing traffic) were carried over VoIP equipment from the time VoIP was legalized in April 2002 and through December 2002, which accounts for some 6 percent of overall ILD traffic in 2002. As of March 2003 some 90 million minutes per month were being carried over VoIP gateways. VoIP traffic is forecasted to reach 7.1 billion minutes by the year 2007, reflecting approximately 61 percent of the total ILD traffic in India. According to the iLocus study, Data Access Ltd. (India) is the leading service provider in terms of VoIP usage. Using VocalTec's carrier-grade VoIP platform, Data Access was the first service provider in India to deploy an IP-based network for ILD voice services.
