SAN JOSE, Calif. -- VocalData Inc., the leading provider of hosted IP telephony applications, today announced that it has enhanced the lawful intercept compliance capabilities of its VOISS‘ voice application server, thanks to interoperability with Xcipio™ SSDF from SS8 Networks.Under terms of the Communications Assistance to Law Enforcement Act, (CALEA), telecom service providers are required to ensure that their equipment, facilities and services comply with authorized electronic surveillance. Previously, VocalData’s service provider customers, who rely on VOISS to offer carrier-grade voice services such as IP Centrex, hosted PBX, and enhanced applications over an IP-based open architecture, could comply with CALEA by interfacing with the PSTN via a Class 5 switch. Today’s announcement allows VocalData customers to use lawful intercept capabilities from a third-party adjunct device, providing them with an IP-based solution and greater flexibility.“VocalData is committed to supporting service providers with the ability to meet critical regulatory requirements while also enabling the delivery of superior converged IP telephony applications,” said Steve Bakke, chief technology officer for VocalData. “By relying on open standards that allow us to provide interoperability between a broad set of equipment and applications partners, we allow service providers to deliver a superior IP telephony experience to their enterprise end customers.”The SS8 Networks Xcipio‘ SSDF product enables VocalData’s service provider customers to allow law enforcement officials to intercept calls in real-time based on various criteria such as number dialed and incoming call number – thus giving law enforcement a powerful weapon in the fight against terrorism. In a separate release:VocalData Inc., the leading provider of hosted IP telephony applications, today announced deployments of its VOISS™ application server with US Sonet and IT Partners. With the new installations, VocalData now supports over 20 customers and has reached a new milestone—25,000 lines shipped. The diversity in VocalData’s service provider customers illustrates the flexibility of the VOISS solution, which is a feature-rich, standards-based voice application server used by service providers to offer carrier-grade voice services and enhanced applications over a multi-vendor, IP-based open architecture. US Sonet, an Internet Service Provider in Salem, IL is using VOISS to expand its service offering to include the complete bundle of high-speed internet, on-line gaming, local and long-distance voice, and video - using fiber-to-the-home access. Business and home-office users will have access to basic IP telephony service as well as IP Centrex capabilities, thanks to the VocalData solution. IT Partners, a “one-stop” system integrator in Dallas, is leveraging its expertise in voice and data integration to include a full suite of hosted PBX capabilities for businesses.“I’m pleased that carriers with such divergent business models can creatively apply the VocalData solution to enhance revenues while minimizing start-up and operating costs,” said Michael Camp, president and CEO, VocalData. “Hosted IP telephony can be a very attractive addition to an existing service provider’s portfolio because it leverages existing data networking assets and skill sets.” In a separate release:VocalData Inc., the leading provider of hosted IP telephony applications, announced that its award-winning VOISS solution is now interoperable with a new leading-edge MGCP phone from Swissvoice and three additional SIP phones, all of which are available this spring. VocalData is the only provider of IP Centrex and hosted PBX applications to support all three critical IP telephony protocols: SIP, MGCP and SCCP. SCCP is the most common protocol among installed IP phones today, while SIP and MGCP continue to grow in market acceptance. With the addition of four new phone models, VocalData now supports more than 20 IP phones and thus offers the most extensive equipment selection to its service provider customers and their enterprise end users. Two of the new SIP models supported by VocalData include the Iwatsu PHS and the Sanyo Torisan IPP-2000, which are designed to meet the unique needs of VocalData’s customers in Asia, including Japanese language support. The third SIP model is the SIP version of the Cisco 7960. VocalData already supports the other protocol versions of the Cisco 7960, which is a very popular model with VocalData’s industry-leading customer base of 25,000 users. In addition, VocalData now supports the new MGCP phone from Swissvoice, which offers a large number of key functions and services at the right price point for service providers (around $100) that will reduce the cost of offering IP telephony and thus help to improve service providers’ business case for hosted IP telephony. As a major telephone set maker, Swissvoice is experienced in developing reliable, user-friendly and cost-effective phones with attractive designs addressed to users in office environments.“The cost of IP phones remains the single largest factor affecting the ROI for IP telephony. Fortunately, prices of IP telephony phones have fallen 75 percent in two years – a very positive sign for the hosted IP telephony market,” said Mark Whittier, vice president, corporate marketing for VocalData. “VocalData’s commitment to interoperability gives our service provider customers an edge by allowing them to offer the widest variety of applications and equipment – at many different price points – to their enterprise customers.”VocalData Inc.
