Veraz Has the Hot VOIP Hand
Small, because the deal involves the installation of Veraz's softswitch, a media gateway, and two application servers (for calling-card and call-center solutions) in the main Moscow POP of Central Telegraph, a small multiservice operator that recorded revenues of 615.6 million rubles (US$20.3 million) in the first half of 2003. Neither party disclosed financial details of the deal.
The significance is twofold. The deal has growth potential for Veraz, as the Russian carrier is embarking on a nationwide expansion project -- dubbed Multitel -- that will involve the building of further POPs.
This win also sees Veraz again replacing an existing VOIP solution from Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO), solidifying its reputation as a vendor with a flexible VOIP product set (see Cisco Gateways Get the Gate).
