TW, Siemens Show Fixed Mobile Convergence

Score one for Time Warner Cable and Siemens Communications. The two companies announced earlier today that they have demonstrated the integration of VoIP, mobile and Wi-Fi technologies to deliver fixed mobile convergence (FMC). Operating out of its Herndon, Va. facility, Time Warner said it's making use of IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) standards to achieve FMC. The MSO is relying on Siemens' IMS solutions to support a range of IP-based services. In one technical demonstration, the two companies used several online gaming scenarios to test the integration of both packet-based and circuit-switched phone networks, as well as numerous wireless and fixed technologies. In another demo, the partners showed off dual-mode handset usage, including seamless handoffs as callers ranged from Wi-Fi coverage areas to cellular coverage areas.
