TV Over DSL Over Italy

LONDON -- Broadband World Forum -- Blink, and you may miss another announcement about TV programs being served up over DSL connections. Last week PCCW Ltd. and France Telecom SA announced plans (see PCCW Launches Phone TV and FT Plans TV Over DSL). This week, it was the turn of Italy's FastWeb SpA (see Alcatel Enables FastWeb Video).

FastWeb, the eBiscom SpA-owned service provider best known for its Ethernet-over-fiber services (see Top Ten Service Providers to Watch), went live with its 120-channel TV-over-DSL offer to all of its 120,000 DSL subscribers on August 30, the start of the Italian calcio (football/soccer) season.

Providing live league matches is a major part of the carrier's marketing push. FastWeb TV, which is already on offer to the company's Ethernet service customers (who each have a 10-Mbit/s connection), costs a mere €10 a month.

FastWeb's network planning director Mario Mella says the carrier set up the service in just four months with the help of its three DSL vendors, Alcatel SA (NYSE: ALA; Paris: CGEP:PA), Marconi Corp. plc (OTC: MONIY), and Siemens AG (NYSE: SI; Frankfurt: SIE).

re: TV Over DSL Over Italy TV over DSL is happening not only in Italy but elsewhere. How about some input into this new technology. The concept may be old but it seems to be coming into prominence only now.
Most of the messages on the LR board are wasted on "'Bobby Max', 'Off shoring Is Not Good for American Workers','Employers "unexpectedly" slash jobs in Aug','Executives in LU'" etc
I am sure that TV over DSL will give a chance to the ignorant Bells to effectively compete against Cable.
They certainly do need some input from the intelligent readers of LR.

PackMan,
Quoting one story in LR to make a point in another LR story?
As Droz said to Gutter in the movie PCU, when Gutter was going to wear a t-shirt of the band playing TO the band's gig; "Gutter, DON'T be that Guy"
:-)

"TV over DSL " is old story and is discussed here in LR. Is LR running out of stories/features to discuss?
