WALTHAM, Mass. and NEW YORK -- TowerStream, a leading U.S. wireless broadband provider, has launched business-grade wireless connectivity services in the five boroughs of New York City and is rapidly attracting top-tier enterprises and hot spot operators across one of the highest density, most demanding commercial markets in the world.

TowerStream built a strong reputation by providing inexpensive, reliable T-1 and higher Internet access and highly responsive customer service in its initial markets, greater Boston and Providence - Newport, RI. In May 2003, TowerStream extended service to Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, the north end of Staten Island and Northern New Jersey. The company also recently added Wi-Fi hot spot backhaul services, typically the most expensive element in Wi-Fi networks. TowerStream plans to expand availability to more than 90% of the greater New York metro commercial users.

The wireless provider's prospects are New York City-area businesses, agencies and operators who need T-1 to Gig-E Internet connections at the best price, and who do not want to wait months for installation. "We can offer our service for half the price of wireline T-1 and deliver next day service, because we are not beholden to the phone company," said TowerStream CEO and co-founder Philip Urso. "Because we own our own network, we offer higher Quality Of Service than competitors, and back it up with an industry-leading guarantee through our Service Level Agreement."

Leading banks, insurance companies, professional services firms and Wi-Fi public access operators have been quick to accept TowerStream's offer. Particularly strong endorsement comes from Emenity, the commercial wireless network integrator that spun out of the pioneering NYCWireless organization early this year.

As Terry Schmidt, Chief Technology Officer with Emenity, describes, "We heard about TowerStream's service and pricing from peers in other cities, and knew they would deliver a very cost-effective backbone. As a customer, we are extremely impressed by their throughput and the speed of service activation, as well as the economics. For example, TowerStream provisioned our Union Square site within one day."

He continued, "We had honed the Wi-Fi access side of the solution very well during deployment of the NYCwireless network. But we had to find a way to connect end user traffic to the Internet, at speeds and throughput that would keep pace with the growth and at much less than wireline T-1 cost. TowerStream has gotten this part of the solution -- the metro network service for backhaul - well in hand, at price points that really fit the business user and hot spot operator economics."

In Boston, TowerStream has a multi-Gigabit self-healing wireless ring network. The network has redundant Internet Points of Presence and up to four diverse Tier One carriers. With primary antennas on seven of Boston's highest points, TowerStream can reach subscribers up to 33 miles from the city center. Diverse subscribers include Infinity Pharmaceuticals, Basis Technology, Iona Software, the United Way, Boston Housing Authority and the City of Boston government, MIT Lincoln Labs, Bentley College and Berklee College of Music, national retailer TJX, transaction technology firm deNovis, and WBZ CBS Television. In addition to the ubiquitous high-speed Internet access, TowerStream's secure wireless access is used in applications such as wireless VPNs, streaming video and audio, disaster recovery and VoIP.

For new business subscribers in New York City who sign up by September 30, 2003, TowerStream offers free installation and one free month of service per location.
