NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Tellabs (Nasdaq: TLAB) has enhanced its Tellabs 8100 managed access system to help carriers quickly deliver broadband business communication services to large- and medium-size enterprises while they reduce operating costs. These new technological enhancements will enable carriers to manage all connectivity services, control up to 30,000 network elements and hundreds of thousands of network terminating units, which significantly exceeds the industry average, with one cost-effective network management software program - the Tellabs 8100 network manager. "Today, customers tell us they need to control very large networks at a minimal cost," said Tom Gruenwald, senior vice president of Tellabs' broadband access systems. "To respond to our customers' needs, we enhanced the Tellabs 8100 managed access system with powerful new software that will help carriers cost-effectively serve more business customers and manage the growing need for higher speed communications. The Tellabs 8100 system is in operation in more than 200 networks worldwide and we continue to enhance it to uniquely meet customers' demands to increase profitability." By using the enhanced Tellabs 8100 managed access system, operators will have a single more scalable network to deliver services faster over low- and high-capacity layers of synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) and plesiochronous digital hierarchy (PDH) networks. This scalability is achieved by fully integrating a high-capacity access node, the Tellabs 8340 maxi node, into the Tellabs 8100 network manager, enabling operators to manage services ranging from n x 64 kilobits per second (Kbps) to n x 2 million bits per second (Mbps) with a few clicks of the mouse.
