MORRISVILLE, N.C. -- Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC), a leading developer of telecommunications products for next-generation fixed, mobile, and packet networks, announced today a multi-million dollar purchase of its next-generation switch, SanteraOne, by PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom). Telkom is the incumbent national telecommunications carrier in Indonesia. Tekelec's SanterOne Class 4 softswitch replaces Telkom's circuit-based switching infrastructure. Telkom and Tekelec have successfully completed the trial with very extensive and stringent tests.

Adeng Achmad, who leads the Telkom Construction Center, explained that the trunk-level switching solution is being deployed in geographically dispersed locations in Jakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya to handle the increase in long-distance and interconnection traffic, requiring high-quality and performance. Initially, the solution will include 50,000 circuit trunks, expanding to more than 500,000 ports. "The SanteraOne will enable Telkom to move forward with the next-generation network that can handle voice and data (packet) in a more efficient and cost-effective way than our circuit-based legacy network," Achmad said. "SanteraOne was chosen through an open-tender selection process over 15 leading vendors such as Cisco, Sonus, Nortel, Siemens, and Lucent."
