AUSTIN, Texas and MORRISVILLE, N.C. -- Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC - News) and General Bandwidth today announced that the companies are demonstrating a solution that facilitates cable operators' entry into cable telephony and enables rapid deployment of packet-voice services. The solution, which the two companies are co-marketing, is being showcased at Tekelec's booth (#911) during the Cable-Tec Expo in Orlando, Fla., June 15-18, 2004.

The joint solution provides cable operators with a proven, VoIP-based cable-telephony offering with carrier-class quality of service and a full set of Custom Local Area Signaling Services (CLASS). "As a result of the collaboration, operators can leverage existing investments in hybrid-fiber coax transport facilities and significantly reduce capital expenditures," explained Fred Lax, Tekelec president and CEO. "In addition, this partnership gives cable operators a significantly more cost-effective, integrated, and more manageable PacketCable(TM)-based solution that simplifies cable telephony deployments."

Designed for full compliance with CableLabs' PacketCable Network-based Control Signaling (NCS) and Line Control Signaling (LCS) specifications, the cable telephony solution delivers CLASS capabilities, including operator services, emergency 911 services, and lawful intercept capabilities.
