Announces enhanced Internet Protocol standard IPv6 capabilities on its SmartBits test system
December 18, 2001
CALABASAS, Calif. -- Spirent Communications, a wholly-owned business group of Spirent plc. (NYSE:SPM), today announced enhanced Internet Protocol Standard, IPv6 capabilities on its SmartBits system. The company's SmartBits systems are the first to support a full IPv6 stack on each test module. With this, Network Equipment Manufacturers and Service Providers can now generate and analyze both IPv4 and IPv6 traffic simultaneously, making it easier to determine the performance capabilities of IPv6 networking devices and systems such as Core Internet Routers. The new SmartBits IPv6 capabilities feature Neighbor Discovery, which performs the necessary information exchange between the test system and the device under test for enabling effective performance testing. Previously, static IPv6 addresses and router port addresses were entered manually requiring more time and labor. "IPv6 performance is key because network engineers need to benchmark performance of routers running IPv4 traffic and compare the results using the same benchmarks with IPv6 traffic," says John Streck, director of CENTAUR Labs, North Carolina State University. "Additionally, it is important to measure and analyze how the load is handled in the routers when both IPv4 and IPv6 traffic are run simultaneously." Spirent PLC
