ROCKVILLE, Md. -- Spirent Communications(tm), a wholly owned business group of Spirent plc (NYSE: SPM and LSE: SPT) today announced a joint marketing and development agreement with Nortel Networks, intended to support service providers' migration from legacy networks to converged packet networks (CPNs). The agreement will enable Spirent and Nortel Networks to market a combination of OSS and network diagnostic products providing a complete service assurance OSS solution for network trunking and access. In addition, Spirent and Nortel Networks will jointly develop incremental service assurance functionality to accommodate new packet services based on customer requirements. Previously, service providers relied on multiple overlay infrastructures to deliver voice and data services, complicating network management and customer responsiveness. CPNs allow service providers to unify these services under a single network management environment. Using software interfaces and tools already familiar to service providers' technical staffs, Spirent and Nortel Networks can provide the solutions necessary to simplify the management of this infrastructure. This achievement is crucial to enabling mass deployment of voice and data services that once required time-consuming, account-by-account management. "This agreement leverages the expertise of two industry leaders in both legacy and next-generation networks, an increasingly critical component for providers as they seek to accelerate deployment of revenue-building broadband services such as high-speed Internet access and videoconferencing throughout their networks while operating their current network management infrastructures," said Jim Schleckser, president of Spirent Communications' Service Assurance - Broadband. "The result for providers will be the accelerated implementation of solutions that help them build a bridge to the converged network, cut operational expenses, reduce time to realize revenues from new services, and improve their capital leverage on network investments."
