KUALA LUMPUR and SAN FRANCISCO -- JARING, one of Malaysia’s largest Internet service providers, and SOMA Networks, Inc., today announced they have signed a contract to deliver broadband and voice services across Malaysia using SOMA Networks’ last-mile wireless access solution. The first stage of the multi-phase deployment will offer wireless broadband and voice services to over 100,000 Malaysian customers, growing to 500,000 in the next four years. Service offerings will include tiered and bundled packages of high-speed Internet access, voice services, and other applications, all powered by the SOMATM solution.

Locally in Malaysia, JARING has already announced plans to deploy SOMA’s next-generation wireless access solution throughout the country by 2005. The company will roll out service in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur and the surrounding Klang Valley, the nation’s business and technology center, for its initial commercial deployment, followed by expansion to other major cities throughout Malaysia. With an existing customer base close to 800,000 dial-up subscribers, JARING is well positioned to capture significant market share in both voice and broadband data market segments by bundling services. JARING predicts that the number of broadband users in Malaysia will reach 1.5 million by 2008. Leveraging its existing customer base and the superior coverage offered by the SOMA solution, JARING is targeting 30 percent market share, translating into approximately 500,000 subscribers.
