MONTREAL -- MERA Systems, Inc., a forefront supplier of industry-leading class 4 and class 4 VoIP solutions for carriers and service providers, today announced that SKYYTEL, a Canadian VoIP wholesale exchange carrier with several hundreds of clients worldwide has chosen to deploy the MERA VoIP Transit Softswitch (MVTS) on its international VoIP network.

SKYYTEL is a facilities-based carrier that operates over 20 Points of Presence (PoPs) across the globe including switch sites in the Middle East, Africa, Eastern Europe, and elsewhere. As their network grew, the company needed to handle ever larger volumes of traffic going through its PoPs and needed to ensure interoperability between multi-vendor equipment deployed in their partner facilities. Another challenge was to effectively coordinate partner-originated call flow in order to maximize profit margins. To cope with these issues, SKYYTEL selected MERA VoIP Transit Softswitch as a robust yet scalable solution that provided them with end to end network management features.

“We currently service hundreds of customers locally and internationally and the number grows with the expansion of our global presence”, says Colin Povall, President of SKYYTEL. “This is why we searched for an effective, off-the-shelf network management solution with diverse monitoring tools; to increase our network traffic handling options, to improve on our interoperability of our vendor-specific equipment and to maximize network security. We found that MVTS provided an exact match for our needs because in addition to a vast range of functionalities, it is extremely user-friendly and cost-effective”.

“We are committed to working with carriers such as SKYYTEL, enabling them to improve their network efficiency and helping to maximize profit margins,” comments Anatoly Korsakov, Commercial Director for MERA Systems. “We at MERA understand how hard it is for wholesalers to stay competitive in today’s crowded market environment. To address these challenges, we are offering customer-tailored solutions that allow VoIP carriers to reduce capital expenses, establish ready interconnections with new partners, simplify network maintenance and increase margins by means of intelligent routing and enhanced peering capabilities”.
