MUNICH -- The Siemens Information and Communication Networks Group has been selected by e.Biscom S.p.A. , Milan, to supply fiber optic transmission systems. e.Biscom is the Italian leader in broadband telecommunications, internet and media-related services. The ultra high capacity transmission systems supplied by Siemens will establish the “information superhighway” for both long-distance and metropolitan areas. E.Biscom has chosen Siemens as its partner due to its product families TransXpress Infinity for long distance backbones, the efficient and transparent multiplexer TransXpress OCU TEX and TransXpress WaveLine, optimized for city networks, based on DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology. They will be deployed by FastWeb in Italy and HanseNet in Germany, e.Biscom's broadband telecommunications companies. FastWeb services are currently offered in Milan, the surrounding areas, and Genoa, and will be offered this year in Turin, Rome, Naples, Reggio Emilia and Grosseto. HanseNet is a leading service provider in Hamburg.

e.Biscom supplies residential users and business customers with internet access at very high speed. In order to guarantee this speed to a growing number of users, the transmission capacity in the backbone networks needs to be increased. The transmission system TransXpress Infinity MTS from Siemens, based on DWDM technology, assures an overall capacity of millions of megabits (Terabit/s) per second. TransXpress OCU TEX guarantees that the individual wavelengths are used efficiently.
