Shuffle Up & Deal

3:40 PM -- I don't like to link to corporate blogs, since they're often just extensions of press releases. But Larry Lang, vice president and general manager of the Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) mobile wireless group, put up an interesting thought about startup financing:

...The conference also featured a friendly Texas Hold'em poker tournament. The dealers kept funding losers with more chips, so risk aversion disappeared and valuations for bad hands soared. I'll leave the obvious analogies to the dotcom bubble as an exercise for the reader.
I like it. Lang was around during the dotcom bubble, of course, and probably saw more than a few bad hands from would-be Cisco acquirees.

The conference in question, by the way, was a Rutberg & Co. gathering early this month. They're the same folks who produce a wireless-funding report that Unstrung's Dan Jones keeps an eye on. (See Mobile Content Nets VC Cash.)
