Sevis Systems introduces SMS routers that allow SMS traffic to bypass the signaling network

PLANO, Texas -- Sevis Systems, a leading provider of advanced signaling solutions, today announced a new generation of SMS routers that allow SMS traffic to completely bypass the entire signaling network. Sevis's Transparent SMS Router (TSR) includes breakthrough technology enabling mobile operators to offload SMS traffic at the "A" interface between the Mobile Switching Center (MSC) and the Base Station Controller (BSC). Carriers can now cost-effectively support the significant growth of SMS traffic without the expensive burden of signaling network upgrades.

Current SMS offload technologies are partial solutions designed to bypass only the Short Message Service Center (SMSC). MSCs and STPs are still left with the huge burden of processing mass volumes of SMS traffic. With the continued growth of SMS, this unaddressed burden has become more and more of a bottleneck, until now. Sevis's TSR paves the way for what Sevis calls the next phase of the SMS overlay network. Sevis's TSR, strategically deployed on the "A" interface, allows SMS traffic to not only bypass the SMSC but also the entire core signaling network from the MSCs to the STPs to the SMSCs, providing an SMS network that is totally independent of the existing signaling network. The Sevis TSR "A" interface offload architecture provides 3G-equivalent transport for the delivery of 2G data traffic.

As an OEM solution, the Sevis TSR is designed to complement existing SMS equipment in order to rapidly achieve complete network bypass. Person-to-application and person-to-person traffic can be routed directly to an application, SMS messaging gateway/hub, another SMS router, or an SMSC. Application-originated traffic is routed directly to the TSR where it is sent to the appropriate BSC for final delivery to the destination handset.
