LAS VEGAS -- The appeal of lower-cost voice services in homes and businesses via a cable network using Voice over IP (VoIP) technology from Scientific-Atlanta offers cable operators an opportunity to add voice to their already popular video and data services for consumers. Using the Scientific-Atlanta® WebSTAR(TM) DPX2203(TM) cable modem with embedded media terminal adapter (EMTA), cable operators can offer advanced telephony and high-speed data service from one device.

The new DPX2203 will be highlighted in demonstrations at the Consumer Electronics Show, January 8-11, 2004 in Las Vegas at the Scientific-Atlanta booth, South Hall, Upper Level, #22917.

The DPX2203 is PacketCable(TM) 1.0 certified to help ensure compatibility and interoperability with other PacketCable-certified and qualified devices including Call Management Servers, Media Gateways and Cable Modem Termination Systems (CMTS). "As the demand from consumers for a complete bundle of services grows, the DPX2203 can help cable operators offer VoIP service which some market analysts forecast will grow to over 10 million North American subscribers by 2007," said Himanshu Parikh, vice president and general manager.
