SAN ANTONIO -- SBC Communications Inc. (NYSE:SBC - News) today announced the availability of a managed Quality of Service (QoS) solution that gives enterprise customers new levels of control in the delivery of multiple applications on a single network. The packaged solution is the latest addition to SBC's comprehensive portfolio of professional and managed services.SBC's new QoS offering utilizes Application Performance Management (APM) technology, which allows SBC to analyze all data, voice and video traffic crossing the customer's wide area network (WAN) to provide a detailed report of which applications are utilizing how much bandwidth. APM then allocates and guarantees network bandwidth to match the needs of specific, mission-critical enterprise applications. In order to provide end-to-end QoS, APM is interoperable with Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS).APM by SBC meets network managers' need to balance a mix of latency-sensitive applications with bandwidth-intensive applications. With this detailed view and the ability to manage application bandwidth dynamically, SBC is able to prioritize enterprise traffic into three QoS levels: business critical, business important and best effort. SBC will fully manage the APM solution, and has partnered with Waltham, MA-based Sitara Networks (www.sitaranetworks.com), a leader in QoS technology, to provide the traffic-shaping technology."As enterprises channel packetized voice, streaming content, and other low-latency applications onto their networks, managing QoS becomes increasingly difficult," said Michael Harris, principal analyst, Network and Internet Services, Gartner, Inc. "Premise-based application-level traffic prioritization is one solution for network administrators to consider for managing the access and egress points in the network." SBC Communications Inc.
