KEYSTONE, Colo. -- Sandvine, world leader in intelligent broadband management solutions, will demonstrate an integrated PCMM solution that ensures quality of experience for service delivery with application and subscriber-aware policies at the CableLabs Summer Conference on August 13-17.

Using VoIP as an example of a valuable broadband subscriber application, Sandvine’s application manager is integrated with Motorola’s CMTS and Camiant’s policy server to demonstrate VoIP protection from competing traffic and malicious attacks; quantitative quality measurements for VoIP; real-time communication with subscribers via a captive portal; and up-sell opportunities for MSOs to increase revenues and enhance the subscriber experience.

In the Sandvine demonstration, a subscriber initiates a video telephony call. While the call is in progress, competing traffic from a file download or malicious traffic attack interrupts the call. Since no prioritization is given to video telephony calls over malicious traffic, the call is negatively affected. The subscriber's next HTTP session is then redirected to a captive portal and is advised to cleanse his network and informed about better service tiers that will ensure quality of experience for specific applications, dependent on the subscriber's usage. In this case the subscriber upgrades their service tier to ensure VoIP and video telephony calls are not derogated by competing traffic. All malicious traffic is logged at the MSO's support center for ease-of-troubleshooting and quick mitigation, if the subscriber at the captive portal does not remedy the attack.
