CLIFFORD, Ontario and Waterloo, Ontario -- Sandvine Incorporated today announced that Wightman Telecom Ltd. has selected Sandvine's Attack traffic Mitigation solution to proactively cleanse their broadband subscriber network of malicious traffic.

Worms are wreaking havoc on service provider networks and costing them an estimated $245 million a year as unplanned equipment expenditures, hemorrhaging customer support costs and inflated transit fees eat away at bottom-lines all around the world. Distribution of maliciously crafted worm code is increasingly being targeted at the most vulnerable, unprotected link - residential subscribers. Consequently, the onus has fallen on service providers to protect subscribers and stop the flood of malicious traffic that is threatening profit margins and harming the subscriber experience.

Wightman is securing its network with Sandvine's multi-layer Worm/DoS solution to create a self-defending network, capable of defeating worm traffic at all five stages of its life cycle. The net result: increased network security, protected subscribers and costs savings.
