Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1: Is the Pen Mightier Than the iPad?

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (Korea: SEC) is trying again for success in the tablet market by cribbing from its popular Galaxy Note tablet-cum-smartphone.

Samsung launched the larger Galaxy Note 10.1 in New York City on Wednesday. The 10-inch display device has a touch screen that can also be written on with Samsung's "S-Pen" radio frequency stylus.

The device has the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system on board now, but Samsung says that the Jellybean 4.1 update will follow later this year.

The tablet has a quad-core 1.4GHz processor and 2GB of RAM on board. It is a Wi-Fi-only device, for now, available in 16GB and 32GB versions.

The tablet goes on sale across the U.S. on Thursday. It is priced at $499 for the 16GB model or $549 for the 32GB model.
