Fortune quotes an unnamed "major Apple investor" who says that invitations for a launch event will be sent out on Oct. 10. According to the magazine, this suggests an Oct. 17 event and a Nov. 2 launch.
Apple, of course, hasn't even commented on the existence of a version of its iPad outfitted with a seven-inch -- rather than 10-inch -- display and a smaller price tag. Apple has sold more than 84 million iPads since they first launched in 2010.
