SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today announced that Synterra, one of Russia's largest independent wholesale service providers, is building a new high-performance IP/MPLS network infrastructure based upon Juniper Networks M- and T-series routing platforms. The new network will deliver the scalability to support a rich array of IP-based services, enabling Synterra to keep pace with burgeoning demand for broadband connectivity in Russia. By leveraging the energy and space efficiency of theM- and T-series, in combination with the proven JUNOS software, Synterra expects to keep space, power and training costs at minimum, enabling it to quickly and cost-effectively expand its services and drive new revenue.

'There is a huge revenue opportunity for service providers in Russia, with business and home users keen to leverage the Internet for data, voice and video services,' said Vitaly Slizen, General Director at Synterra. 'However, as in all competitive markets, service differentiation and optimized costs are significant considerations. We chose Juniper Networks because its M- and T-series routers offer industry-leading performance and reliability, and the cost-effective simplicity of JUNOS, as a single code train, is very compelling. Also, the space and power efficiency these platforms deliver enable us to reduce operational cost, while maintaining the high standards of service quality and richness our customers demand.'

Synterra needed to ensure its network could scale to deliver the capacity for future growth, while protecting its initial investment in equipment and associated staff training costs. The Juniper Networks T640 routing platform delivers 640Gbps throughput, and can be non-disruptively upgraded in-service to a multi-terabit T1600. By leveraging the widely-deployed JUNOS software and building upon more than a decade of core routing innovation, Juniper Networks T-series offer unparalleled scalability, service richness and investment protection.

Synterra is deploying the M-series multiservice edge routers, including the M120, at smaller points of presence throughout the country. The M120 is one of the industry's most feature-rich and scalable multiservice edge routing platforms and enables service providers to efficiently migrate to next-generation, converged IP business and residential services. The M-series also leverages JUNOS software for consistent performance and simplified operations from network core to the edge.

'Juniper is very happy to be working with Synterra to create a high-performance network infrastructure that can deliver the quality and scale of services its customers require, while keeping operational costs at a minimum,' said Gert-Jan Schenk, senior vice president of operations, EMEA, for Juniper Networks. 'The combination of high-performance, service richness and operational cost-effectiveness enabled by the flexibility, openness and ubiquity of JUNOS in Juniper's M- and T-series enhances our customers'revenue potential and enables them to introduce new services quickly and cost-effectively.'
