SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Juniper Innovation Showcase -- After a 2014 to forget, starting with a shareholder uprising and ending with the CEO falling on his corporate sword, Juniper Networks brought analysts and journalists to its offices recently to show off the company's future direction.

Juniper Networks Inc. (NYSE: JNPR) executives talked about the company's future direction, including renewed focus on custom silicon. But the main aim was to show that the company has its act together and it's fair to say that Juniper's executives managed to hit that target. But although 2014's snafus are behind it, Juniper still faces the tough job of staying relevant in a highly competitive market.

Light Reading was at the company's Innovation Showcase -- see links to our coverage and other Juniper articles below -- so we snapped a few pictures to share with you. Click the photo below to start the slideshow.

Morale Booster
After 2014's shenanigans, Juniper might have a morale problem. Fortunately, the company has this small refrigerator outside its networking lab. Ice cream makes everything better.

Re: custom silicon?
Mitch,

I suppose you're right.. as long as the price difference between X & Y aren't unreasonably different for the provided value.

I simply don't know if Juniper's customer base is stacked with companies that care about X and its advantages.. or not. That'll be the trick to whether Juniper's strategy works. Or, I guess, as long as there is at least a minimum quorum of customers willing to pay extra for X so that Juniper can figure out how to build on it.

Apple greatly simplified its product line circa 1997.. and stuck with its "thinking different" strategy... and somehow figured out how to build on its advantages when everyone thought it was basically dead. So it's possible....

Re: custom silicon?
mhhf1ve - The strategy could work out well for Juniper. When every vendor is going from X to Y, it can be prudent for a company to say, "You know, I think there's still going to be demand for X even when lots of people go to Y. I'm going to stick with providing X."

custom silicon?
Anyone have any opinions on how custom silicon will actually work as a strategy for Juniper? I like ice cream as much as anyone, but... will the advantages of integrated hardware/software really stack up with Juniper's field of customers?

Re: Showcase
I could care less about Juniper, all I care about now is ice-cream.

Re: Showcase
nasimon,

The Innovation Showcase was the name of the event. It wasn't a thing to photograph.

Sorry for the confusion on that.

Showcase
I looked through all the nine pictures but where is the innovation showcase? Am I overlooking anything here?
