Cisco's Big Launch

2:00 PM -- For all the whimsy Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) put behind its ASR 1000 pre-launch marketing, the launch event itself today turned out to be a bit dry. It's pretty much what you'd see at a conference keynote. One noteworthy feature is live Q&A entry, where you can see people ask about the box's price again and again.

The event itself isn't truly live -- I actually launched it earlier than scheduled, and it starts from the beginning if you relaunch it. But it's accessible only at designated times, probably so people don't fill up the Q&A queue when there's no one around to answer. The next available time is 9:00 p.m. Eastern, I think.

I wasn't able to watch the whole thing; it froze up just as Shin Hashimoto from NTT Communications Corp. (NYSE: NTT) was to appear. There was an audience question related to the same glitch, so maybe the video file got damaged.

This morning's session included a bit of news in the Q&A. Asked about the fate of the Cisco 10000, the Cisco answerbot said: "The 10K is not going anywhere, in fact look for an announcement on new 10K capabilities very soon."
