AlcaLu Bangs Its Drum

9:00 AM -- Behind closed doors, Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) folk are dancing, some in sheer delight, and some on what they think is PBT's grave.

The sheer delight comes from the monster, multi-technology, $1 billion deal with China Mobile Ltd. (NYSE: CHL) for products and services, including some 3G TD-SCDMA gear, which has been long in development at the vendor's local business, Alcatel Shanghai Bell Co. Ltd. In the U.K., the AlcaLu team is celebrating the official announcement that BT Group plc (NYSE: BT; London: BTA), having decided it's not so keen on carrier Ethernet technology PBT after all, is to base its new Ethernet service rollout using the vendor's 7750 service routers, though that's something the carrier had already strongly hinted at earlier this year.
