Motorola set up two single sector eNodeB base stations, one on top of the Hotel Catalonya across from the exhibition center, and used 2x10 MHz of 2.6 GHz spectrum for the demo.
The peak rates achieved in the demo were 29 Mbit/s. But the system was optimized for 15 Mbit/s on the downlink and 10 Mbit/s on the uplink. The focus for this particular demo was to show off the applications in a real-world environment, rather than what maximum data rates can be achieved.
So, as we drove through slow-moving traffic, the handover worked, we saw streamed HD video content (which appeared to be some documentary footage about spiders), and we watched our progress through the streets of Barcelona on Google maps.
