RCN Preps Wireless Test in Boston

RCN Corp. announced plans last week to offer wireless phone and broadband service in the Boston area, starting sometime in September. As part of a deal struck with wholesaler MobilePro Corp., the competitive cable provider will market the service under the RCN Wireless brand. Pricing has not been set yet.

RCN, which competes against both Comcast and Verizon Communications in the Boston market, said the partnership will allow it to deliver a "quad-play" of data, video, voice and mobile services to its subscribers. But MobilePro will bill customers separately for its services, at least initially. Plans call for expanding the services to other RCN markets.
