EATONTOWN, N.J. -- Quintum® Technologies, Inc., a leading manufacturer of voice over IP solutions announced that they have introduced a Tenor Call Relay SP Session Border Controller that supports the needs of next generation service providers.

The new Tenor Call Relay SP complements the existing session border controller which debuted in October, 2001. The Call Relay SP was designed to address the scalability that service providers require for their networks. The original Call Relay supports 16 simultaneous VoIP calls, software upgradeable to 32; the new Call Relay SP supports 120 simultaneous VoIP calls, software upgradeable to 672.

Both Tenor Call Relay and Call Relay SP allow VoIP endpoints such as gateways, IP phones, and IP soft phones which are behind a Network Address Translation (NAT) firewall, to communicate with VoIP endpoints on external IP networks. This allows both enterprises and service providers to expand their VoIP networks to home offices branch offices, customers, partners and across the public internet.

Tenor Call Relay SP, like the original Call Relay, supports Quintum’s unique PacketSaver technology that has the ability to reduce the amount of bandwidth required by 57% of the incoming VoIP traffic stream. The Call Relay SP also can be remotely managed and offers a single point for call management, administration and security at the edge of the network.

The Tenor Call Relay SP, like the other Tenor Switch products, also works with the Quintum Call Routing Server, allowing service providers to handle the sophisticated routing of traffic required when interconnecting with multiple VoIP providers.
