John Osanitsch has been named vice president of sales and service and Zbigniew Opalka as vice president of engineering. The hires are representative of Quarry’s momentum as the company gains market traction in providing leading-edge network-based security technology to network service providers around the globe.

Quarry’s new vice president of engineering, Zbigniew Opalka, has dedicated more than 20 years of his career to advancing network technology. He has co-authored four patents for packet processing and high-speed switching technology and is widely recognized for his expertise in IP/MPLS and frame relay routing and optical switching. As Quarry Technologies’ vice president of engineering, Mr. Opalka will oversee engineering and product development for Quarry’s iQ family of security service routers.

Prior to joining Quarry, Mr. Opalka was co-founder and CTO of Axiowave Networks, an optical switching provider. He also co-founded two other networking companies, Agile Networks and Nexabit Networks. After Lucent acquired Nexabit, Mr. Opalka became a vice president of IP products where he managed the engineering teams responsible for IP routing. Earlier in his career, Mr. Opalka also played a key role in BBN Communications’ router development.

John Osanitsch joins Quarry as vice president of sales and service with considerable experience bringing technology companies to high levels of profitability. As vice president of sales and service at Quarry, he will oversee and further develop the company’s global sales, strategic business development programs, and customer service.

Mr. Osanitsch brings over 25 years of high-tech and senior management experience to his role at Quarry Technologies. As a seasoned executive in both corporate and startup environments, he is experienced growing early stage businesses and managing global sales, marketing, and business development efforts. Prior to Quarry, he was executive vice president of sales & marketing at Andes Networks (ANI). Before joining ANI he served as the interim CEO and EVP of business operations at Kenetec, a start-up based in Connecticut. Before that, Mr. Osanitsch was vice president of marketing for broadband routing and switching products and a member of the Global Executive Team at Marconi Communications, Inc. He came to Marconi through the acquisition of Mariposa Technology, Inc. where he was a co-founder and executive vice president for advanced technology and business development and served as interim president and CEO just prior to the Marconi deal. Before launching Mariposa, Mr. Osanitsch held a number of engineering and product manager roles at General Datacomm and Eastman Kodak.

“Both John and Zbigniew have an incredible combination of business and technical skills,” commented Quarry Technologies President & CEO Ian Mashiter. “This is an exciting time for Quarry as we continue to win customers around the globe and set the standard for security technology deployed by network providers.
