Photos: Protest & Unrest in France

Over the past couple of weeks, Orange (NYSE: FTE) has been through the ringer dealing with employee unrest and a media storm set off by a string of more than 20 suicides involving FT employees over the past two years. (See FT Reviews Health and Safety.)

Click on the photo below to see a short slideshow of the coverage, which includes a separate protest involving Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU), which had its own recent labor spat.

re: Photos: Protest & Unrest in France

According to the national statistics, 17 out of 100.000 people commit suicide in France each year. This yields 26 suicide cases among 100.000 FT's employees in 1.5 years.

It is not a question what drives FT's employees to kill themselves (they do not seem to exceed the statistic rate), but what drives any person to commit suicide.

Did anyone in the last few days notice all the other other (non-FT) deaths?
