LONDON -- Global network services provider PacketExchange has chosen the Tellabs(R) 8800 Series of Intelligent Multi-Service Routers (MSRs) to expand its Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) backbone network. The investment follows a series of high profile client wins for PacketExchange and dramatic growth in traffic across the company's network. Deploying the Tellabs solution will enhance PacketExchange's ability to deliver future-proof services with specific Service Level Agreements (SLAs), maximizing customer satisfaction and competitive advantage.

The agreement covers the supply, deployment and support of the Tellabs(R) 8860 MSR and Tellabs(R) 8820 MSR from the Tellabs 8800 Series for all of PacketExchange's core points of presence in Europe and the United States. The deal represents a major Tellabs 8800 system customer win in Europe for Tellabs, and is a further step forward for the telecommunications solutions provider as it continues to penetrate the expanding data market.

Kieron O'Brien, chief executive officer, PacketExchange, said, "PacketExchange is well into a steep growth curve. Selecting a new network platform that can handle our scalability challenge while sustaining our customer-orientated approach to business was the key criteria in our choice of partner. In addition, supporting our new product development activities, including Virtual Private LAN Service, posed a further challenge to bidders during the selection process. Tellabs' capability to perform at our pace and to take responsibility for delivering a demanding turnkey solution convinced us to award them this contract."

"Winning this business further illustrates the growing recognition in the service provider community that Tellabs delivers scalable, carrier-class MPLS networks," said Bill Burns, senior vice president Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Tellabs. "We demonstrated beyond doubt that our future-proof data solution will enhance PacketExchange's service offering, maximize customer satisfaction and generate new service revenue opportunities."
