CUPERTINO, Calif. -- Packeteer(R) (NASDAQ:PKTR) , the global leader in WAN Application Optimization, today announced the appointment of two sales vice presidents. Wayne M. Bergland joins Packeteer as the new vice president of sales for the Americas. Heading up European operations, Bernard Girbal has been appointed vice president of sales for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Bergland has over 20 years of executive-level sales and management experience that includes a prominent track record in building sales organizations and growing revenue through expanded channel partnerships. Prior to joining Packeteer, Bergland was vice president, field sales of the Americas with SurfControl, a leading Internet security company. Previously, he was vice president of sales with Omnishift Technologies, a privately-held infrastructure software company. He also served as vice president of North America enterprise accounts with Tarantella, a Santa Cruz Operation spin-off acquired by Sun Microsystems. Bergland has also served at the vice president level in various sales capacities with Santa Cruz Operation and IXI Corporation.

Girbal brings extensive experience selling networking, software, and security solutions to enterprise environments. For the past 9 years, he has held vice president of EMEA roles with privately-held and public companies, most recently with Trend Micro as vice president of sales and marketing. Previously, Girbal held senior sales and management roles at Art Technology Group, Candle Corporation and Nuera Communications. Girbal has also held senior EMEA sales positions at 3Com, Chipcom, and HP.
