The operator said it will offer high-speed data packet access (HSDPA) at up to 7.2 Mbit/s in the top 30 U.K. cities within the next 18 months. And starting next year, Orange will upgrade its 3G network to 14.4 Mbit/s in an initial five U.K. cities.

Orange also said it would launch a dualmode WiFi/cellular service for the U.K. using “laptops that will provide customers with instant broadband using Orange’s fixed-line service in the home, and the high-speed mobile data network on the move.” Could this be the new version of Unique? Another part of the new strategy involves creating 500 new jobs in retail and customer service, while cutting up to 450 jobs in administration, management, and support functions.
