NSN's Mixed Fortunes

2:00 PM -- Nokia Networks announced today a consulting services contract with China Mobile Communications Corp. , and it's a key example what Nokia Corp. (NYSE: NOK) CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo referred to as "stronger than expected performance in China, especially in the services sector," in the first quarter this year. But elsewhere in the Asia/Pacific region, NSN is not having an easy time competing against Chinese vendors Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. and ZTE Corp. (Shenzhen: 000063; Hong Kong: 0763) for network equipment deals. Singapore's MobileOne Ltd. (M1) (Singapore: MONE) is the latest operator to award a WCDMA and HSPA network upgrade contract to Huawei rather than its incumbent supplier NSN. The deal follows news that ZTE ousted NSN at Hong Kong CSL Ltd. in Hong Kong and Huawei replaced NSN at StarHub in Singapore.
