9:45 AM -- A report from Taiwan caused a bit of a stir this morning with speculation that Nokia Networks might break away from its current femtocell strategy and actually start making its own femtocells with a local partner. The article said NSN was in talks with Taiwanese network equipment manufacturers Gemtek Technology Co. Ltd. and Accton Technology Corp. about jointly producing home base stations.

But the story turned out to be more like a storm in a teacup as the vendor said that it had not changed its femto strategy.

An NSN spokesman sent this statement to Unstrung: "In the course of our global business, NSN continuously evaluates its supply chain and operations across all areas. However, our strategy for femtocells remains unchanged."

NSN makes a femtocell gateway, but not the actual femtocells that go in customers' homes. For a complete solution, NSN has so far partnered with five femtocell vendors: Airvana Inc. , Netgear Inc.
