Nokia's Bitter Pill

8:50 AM -- Yeah, yeah, Nokia Corp. (NYSE: NOK) has now officially killed its 810 WiMax tablet. Here's my question though: Was it ever really alive?

How many times did you check Buy.com or other sites to find that it was always "temporarily out of stock"? I did, countless times. (See Nokia WiMax Tablet Soon?)

Sure, Nokia killed the tablet because there weren't many WiMax networks out there that it could use. It was hardly what I would call a widescale release, however. I think I saw the device maybe three times in the flesh -- even then, one time it was running on WiFi. (See Nokia's WiNot.) — Dan Jones, Site Editor, Unstrung

re: Nokia's Bitter Pill What a fitting end for a product they never seemed to want to market... remember asking for an interview with Nokia types at CTIA and they couldn't produce a single person who knew what it was about.

Why build it in the first place?
